My name is Rose Clearfield. I’ve been keeping some sort of journal literally ever since I learned how to write. I’ve been blogging publicly since late 2008. This is where I’m blogging now. It means a lot to me that you’re here.
I have my bachelor’s degree in elementary education. While my husband was in medical school, I taught special education for four years while earning my master’s degree in special education. When we moved to Milwaukee for his medical residency, I was ready for something different. I started freelance writing with the plan that I could keep writing when we had kids.
Five years later, I’m still freelance writing, and we don’t have kids. Infertility isn’t a major part of this blog, but it is, and continues to be, one of the toughest experiences of my life. Long story short, I’m done with fertility treatments and we’re pursuing adoption. Please don’t tell me stories about miracle babies, that I’m saving the world by adopting, that everything will fall into place now that we’re done with medical training and in our “forever” home, or that I’ll get pregnant now that we’re pursuing adoption. Please tell me that you’re thinking about me and my husband, and please pray for us in this ongoing difficult journey.
I live in southeast WI with my husband Jake and our three cats. All three kitties came from the Wisconsin Humane Society. Apollo and Ares turned four August 2016, and Hobbes turned one in April 2016.
Those of you who have known me since before roseclearfield.com existed know our 18 year old cat Angel crossed the rainbow bridge in September 2014. She was Jake’s childhood pet and an integral part of the first eight years of our marriage. We miss her every day.
Photography is one of my biggest passions. I got motivated to better my photos for my Etsy jewelry shop and randomcreativeart.com blog, and the hobby evolved from there. I bought my first DSLR camera almost two years into trying to conceive. Improving my photography skills has been extremely empowering during a time in my life in which I’ve had basically no control over the one thing that I want most.
My writing influences (in no particular order) include, but aren’t limited to, Emily Giffin, J.K. Rowling, Michael Crichton, John Feinstein, Nick Hornby, and Madeleine L’Engle.
When I’m not writing or taking pictures, I love to spend time with family and friends in Milwaukee eating out and enjoying live music and shows, festivals, and other cultural events (which yes, sometimes does involve more picture taking). I spend a lot of time watching Lake Michigan, and my favorite local band is I’m Not a Pilot. I saw them live about 20 times in 2013-2015.
