Art in Bloom is an annual event at multiple art museums around the United States, including the Milwaukee Art Museum. Local florists create installations inspired by various artworks in the museum. The term installations doesn’t begin to do justice to the creativity that goes into these stunning floral creations. The floral displays are phenomenal, ranging from very literal to quite abstract interpretations.
During the course of the four-day event, the Milwaukee Art Museum hosts local artisan and vendor booths, a fashion show, a silent auction, kid-friendly activities, food booths, and much more. You’ll easily fill an entire afternoon, if not an entire day, at the museum for Art in Bloom.
One of my favorite parts about attending Art in Bloom is that it gets people discussing artworks all over the museum. I never talk to as many random museum goers about the artwork as I do during Art in Bloom. Not surprisingly, the event attracts a lot of photographers as well, and it’s fun getting to talk to them, too.
I’ve narrowed down a selection of my favorite floral installations from the 2019 Art in Bloom exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum to share here. It’s so tough to pick just a few installations to feature. They’re all fabulous.
During our trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum for Art in Bloom, Tommy and I made a stop at the Kohl’s art studio. He spent 10-15 minutes working on a painting (his first ever, so I was pretty excited) and played with the blocks. Tommy was a champ looking at so many floral installations and letting me take pictures of them. The stop at the art studio helped break up our time at the art museum perfectly.
