Why make to-do lists?

There is an extensive range of proven benefits of making to-do lists. Even with the best of intentions, we all have things we want to accomplish that just never seem to get done. As your mental to-do list grows longer, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Instead of starting somewhere and checking a few things off your list, you don’t get anything done. Then your list grows even longer, creating a vicious cycle.

Putting your to-do list in writing helps you break the barrier. You start by acknowledging that there are tasks you need to complete. With the list written down, you can prioritize the most important items and begin checking them off the list. As with any new habit, it may take time to get accustomed to writing to-do lists weekly, or even daily. With practice, you’ll come to depend on the habit because you get so much more accomplished.

How can I use my new to-do lists?

To-do lists come in all shapes and sizes. It’s important to select to-do lists that work well for you, so you’re more likely to stick with them. There are four main methods for using to-do lists that I had in mind while creating these free printable spring to-do lists.

  • Organize your day. Before you head to bed, make a to-do list for the coming day. You’ll sleep better with a plan for tomorrow. [Source]
  • Organize your week. Some people function best when they have their tasks in front of them for the entire week ahead. Start the week by making a basic outline with a few top priorities for each day. As you go, you can refine the tasks for any given day.
  • Prioritize your tasks. It seems counterintuitive, but it’s a proven fact that it’s ideal to start the day with one of your easiest tasks. [Source] From there, you’ll gain momentum and will be ready to take on more difficult items on your to-do list. Writing a to-do list makes this prioritization process straightforward.
  • Plan ahead to get favorite spring events on the calendar. We all start a new season with big aspirations for the months ahead. Spring is no exception. But then the weeks start slipping by. One minute it’s still snowing, and then before you know it, you’re preparing for the end of the school year. Writing a spring bucket list helps you prioritize favorite spring activities. Hang your completed spring bucket list on the refrigerator or another prominent spot in your house, so you remember to keeping crossing off items.

Please don’t feel limited to these options. I’d love to hear about other uses you have for your new spring to-do lists!

Printing the spring to-do lists

My recommendation for printing the 5 x 7 to-do lists quickly and easily is to buy 5 x 7 memo sheets. Your lists will be formatted precisely, and you won’t have to spend time trimming the paper to size. A 500-sheet pack is reasonably priced and will last you for a year or longer.

The 8 x 10 to-do lists print beautifully on regular 8.5 x 11 printer paper. Review the print preview image before hitting the print button to confirm the margins look the way you want. If the fit isn’t quite right, look for a “shrink to fit” option, which should fix any issues. Stock up on printer paper for the remainder of the school year.
