Art in Bloom is an annual event at multiple art museums around the United States, including the Milwaukee Art Museum. Local florists create installations inspired by various artworks in the museum. The term installations doesn’t begin to do justice to the creativity that goes into these stunning floral creations. The floral displays are phenomenal, ranging from very literal to quite abstract interpretations.

It’s becoming something of an annual tradition to attend the yearly orchid show at the Chicago Botanic Garden. The show always runs in February and March, which is the perfect time to escape to the indoor greenhouses for a little warmth and color. With a fairly open calendar this time of year, we always fit in a visit to the orchid show.

Tulips at the Boerner Botanical Gardens
Last Tuesday was a free day at the Boerner Botanical Gardens. The tulips are out in full force now and couldn’t be more stunning. While there isn’t too much else blooming at the gardens right now, you’d never know it from these pictures because the tulips are so abundant and so colorful. The free day happened to be chilly, overcast, and rainy, which meant there weren’t many people there and the lighting was perfect for flower photography.
