For the Birds Spring Floral Show at the Domes

The spring floral show, For the Birds, is up and running at the Mitchell Park Domes through May 29! As always, the Domes did a fabulous job with their featured seasonal show. The flowers are so colorful, and the birds scattered throughout the exhibit add such a sweet touch. A local organization donated the bird feeders and bird houses for the exhibit.

The flowers featured include blue hydrangeas, white Easter lilies, multicolored tulips, and forget-me-nots as well as flowering crabapple trees. (Thank you to the Domes Facebook page for providing this information because I don’t know the names of most flowers.) The birds featured are native to Wisconsin and include robins, red-tailed hawks, mourning doves, loons, and grackles. If you visit with kids, you can pick up scavenger hunt sheets to help you find the different flowers and birds.

Mid-Spring Inspiration

Remember my early spring inspiration post? My spring photography board is still going strong on Pinterest. A month later, the views outside are starting to resemble the images on the board. The grass is green, the trees are starting to bloom, and green shoots are popping up all over the place. The daffodils really came out in full force during the Easter weekend, which was very exciting. I can’t wait to see more plant growth over the coming weeks. My summer photography board will be a little more varied. But my spring board is all about the flowers. I’m sharing just a few of my favorite images here today.

Lilies Everywhere

In my neighborhood, there seem to be very specific blooming periods for different flowers. One day you won’t see any daffodils and then the next day, there are dozens of daffodils everywhere you look. I know that this is true in many parts of the world, but I’ve never lived in a neighborhood where it occurred so consistently with so many types of flowers. Currently lilies are in bloom. Orange lilies are especially abundant, and it makes me so happy to see the bright petals while driving or walking along the local streets.

Summer on Olympus Floral Show at the Domes

The Mitchell Park Domes reopened their Show Dome on April 29! The conservatory was closed through most of the winter and early spring due to some ongoing structural issues. You can read more about it over here. It may still be years before the Domes are fully reopened, but I’m very glad they’ve found a way to continue to run their seasonal floral shows and that they’re finally working toward a long-term plan for full restoration. I always enjoy their seasonal floral shows and am excited to share a little peek at Summer on Olympus here today.

Summer on Olympus runs through Sunday, September 11, 2016. The Michell Park Domes are always free on Monday mornings from 9:00 a.m.-noon except major holidays for Milwaukee County residents. Due to the limited Domes access, general admission is just $3 until all three domes reopen. Children 5 and under get in for free.
