Japanese Zen Garden Spring Floral Show at the Domes

A Japanese Zen garden is the ideal way to relax a bit in the midst of the end of the year activities that fill this time of year. The garden is intended to bring out the essence of nature and inspire meditation and quiet reflection. The garden features Japanese plants, kokedama, and cherry blossom trees, interspersed with water features, rock displays, and Japanese sculptures. The colors are gorgeous, just perfect for spring.

Miniature Milwaukee Train Show at the Domes

I have been very excited for the Miniature Milwaukee train show. I love all things Milwaukee. After seeing miniature Chicago at Wonderland Express this past holiday season, I was really looking forward to Miniature Milwaukee. Although the past two train show themes were nice, I hadn’t been really excited about a train show at the Domes since The Great Train Robbery. Miniature Milwaukee didn’t disappoint.

Scrooge Holiday Floral Show at the Domes

The theme of the holiday floral show at the Mitchell Park Domes is a classic: Scrooge. The show takes you through a visual retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, with scenes inspired by each of the ghosts who visit Ebenezer. We see the Ghost of Jacob Marley, Ghost of Christmas Past (the snow queen), Ghost of Christmas Present (a Victorianesque Santa figure), and Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (eerie bare trees in a graveyard site).

The Christmas Carol scenes are filled out with gorgeous poinsettias in all different shades. The gazebo is decked out in festive garlands and more pots filled with poinsettias and other holiday florals. The floral exhibit is complete with a stunning, gigantic decorated Christmas tree.

Where the Coleuses Grow Fall Floral Show at the Domes

For the fall show this year, the Mitchell Park Domes are featuring coleuses. The Show Dome is home to over 30 varieties of coleus in a range of colors, patterns, shapes, and sizes. The vivid greens, yellows, reds, and pinks are the perfect camouflage for the forest animals hiding among the foliage. As you’ll see in my pictures, we spotted a handful of squirrels, rabbits, and other little creatures. The display is filled out with vines and grasses as well as a selection of gorgeous chrysanthemums.

Shakespeare To Bee or Not To Bee Summer Floral Show at the Domes

The Domes enjoyed the spring Shakespeare theme so much that they decided to create a Shakespeare theme for summer as well. The show has a similar layout but different quotes and corresponding floral displays for summer, including roses (Romeo and Juliet), lilies (Henry VIII), and marigolds (A Winter’s Tale and Cymbeline). Of course, in keeping with the title of the show, there’s a cute bee feature as well. As always, their floral displays are stunning. I love that they kept the gazebo up for the summer show.
