Summer is the only time of the year I’m motivated to work out. I really admire people who have the motivation to work out all year round. Maybe this will be the year I finally continue the habits I develop in the summer into the next season. Having nice workout clothes and other workout gear I’m excited to use definitely helps. The vast majority of my essential summer workout gear is items you can use throughout the year.
The summer floral show, Ultra Violet, is up and running at the Mitchell Park Domes through September 10! Yes, ultra violet means that the entire show is purple, which is a lot of fun and just really different from their other shows the past couple of years.
Ultra Violet features a wide range of purple from indigo to iridescent purple with angelonia, impatiens, petunias, persian shield, heliotrope, dusty miller, tibouchina shrubs, vinca, and more. (As always, thanks to the Domes for providing information about the flowers because I’m clueless about most flower names.)
This past weekend Polish Fest took place in Milwaukee. The largest celebration of Polish heritage and history in the United States, it’s always the first big ethnic festival to kick off the season at Henry Maier Festival Park. It’s officially festival season here in Milwaukee. Polish Fest is one of three events I attended over the weekend. On Saturday, Jake and I had lunch and listened to some polka at the Downtown Racine German Fest and then headed up to Milwaukee for the Lakefront Festival of Art. Jake and I have browsed the art festival for several years now and finally made some purchases this weekend. We bought some art while on the cruise, too, so I may be sharing more about our new pieces later this summer as we get them displayed.
I took pictures at Polish Fest, so that’s what I’m sharing in more detail today. Milwaukee is so fortunate to have Henry Maier Festival Park. Home to Summerfest, it’s an enormous festival space with ample room for all of the ethnic festival activities – food, drink, craft demonstrations, shopping, genealogy, live music, dancing, and more. You can stay right in the heart of the action or spread out with your food or let your kids run around along the lakefront.
Unofficially this has been (and continues to be) the summer of golden hour. We have been blessed with so many beautiful summer evenings with perfect temps, little wind, and lots of amazing, soft light. Of course I’m taking advantage of it and bringing my camera with me for evening walks and other excursions. These long days will be gone before we know it, and I want to keep enjoying as many of them as possible while they’re still here.
P.S. I can’t say the phrase “the summer of” without thinking of this.
