It’s no secret that I love golden hour, especially in the summer. I really enjoy living by Lake Michigan and admiring its beauty all year round. But there is something about summer golden hour that is truly magical. Even when you get soft light on the water other times of the year, it isn’t quite the same. In summer, the whole atmosphere changes for an hour or so. I look forward to it every single night. Sunrise over Lake Michigan

It took me over a year of living half a block from the lake to get up for a sunrise. I’m not a morning person…at all. It still seems like a sad excuse giving our close proximity to what is essentially a private stretch of beach. Like many parts of the country, we’ve experienced above normal temperatures during the end of February here in southeast WI, which made a not-too-early sunrise (~6:45 a.m.) a little more appealing. Getting up for the sunrise isn’t going to become a habit anytime soon, but it is a great way to start the day.

The Summer of Golden Hour

Unofficially this has been (and continues to be) the summer of golden hour. We have been blessed with so many beautiful summer evenings with perfect temps, little wind, and lots of amazing, soft light. Of course I’m taking advantage of it and bringing my camera with me for evening walks and other excursions. These long days will be gone before we know it, and I want to keep enjoying as many of them as possible while they’re still here.

P.S. I can’t say the phrase “the summer of” without thinking of this.
