A Milwaukee Memorial Day Tradition

Memorial Day at the VA 2018 |

I hope that everyone had a nice Memorial Day weekend. We had gorgeous weather here in southeast WI, Jake didn’t have to work, and we got to spent a lot of time with family and friends, enjoying good conversation, delicious food, and beautiful scenery.

All of that aside, one of my favorite things to do on Memorial Day weekend is visit Wood National Cemetery adjacent to the VA grounds in Milwaukee. There is nothing like seeing thousands of flags lined up along the graves to remember exactly what Memorial Day means.

Milwaukee VA Grounds April 2017 |

The Milwaukee VA grounds are one of my all-time favorite places in the city. Long-time blog readers who have been with me since my last blog know that it’s been a favorite place for many years now. I used to live very close to the VA and walked through the grounds monthly, if not weekly. Now that I don’t live so close, I don’t get over there as often. The last time I had my camera with me on the VA grounds before this past week was actually Memorial Day weekend 2016, nearly a year ago. When I went to the For the Birds show at the Domes, I made time to stop by the VA grounds as well.
