13 Months of Annie

This past week our Annie turned 13 months old!

Annie

The weather is still more like summer than fall here. We’ve spent lots of time hanging out in the yard. Annie loves the push car and playing in the little house. She’ll ride on or push the car herself or let one of the older kids push her. It’s always a battle to keep the kids from pushing Annie too quickly. But they love it, and when they don’t get too crazy, Annie loves it, too. Annie still tolerates short periods in the pack ‘n play outside as well.

I’d been holding off on moving Annie out of the baby bath seat until this past month because I knew that she’d be all over the place in the bath. Sure enough, she is fearless in the bath, and she loves it so much. Annie enjoys the freedom and having so many new toys. She’d not afraid to splash and doesn’t mind getting water in her face when I wash her hair.

This past month Annie cut her second bottom tooth. Both bottom middle teeth are fully in now. Annie also started cutting her top two middle teeth. They’re still just peeking out. Annie’s diapers haven’t been great all month, and we’ve been just barely keeping a diaper rash at bay. But she hasn’t had full blown teething symptoms, and I’m always grateful for that.

Annie’s hair keeps growing like crazy. On its own, I’m constantly brushing it out of her eyes. Annie has been increasingly less tolerant of wearing hair bows. I’m not in a hurry to get her hair cut, as she’ll look like a boy if I do now. I also don’t want a second kid with bangs, as the haircut schedule is stressful. Annie’s hair is long enough for a top ponytail. I’ve only put it in a ponytail once so far, and she did all right with it.

Annie is in a good routine right now of eating solid food for breakfast, a post-nap meal, and dinner. Hands down, her favorite new food this past month was garlic naan from our local Pakistani restaurant. Annie kept saying naan and eating it faster than I could get it to her in small pieces. Annie also tried grapes for the first time and can’t get enough of them. She continues to enjoy graham crackers, Hawaiian rolls, breakfast sausage, calzones, cheese, and meat sticks. When we order pizza, Jake always wants supreme. I cut up all of the toppings for Annie along with little bits of cheese and crust, and she loves it.

Annie had zero issues transitioning from formula to milk. She’s still operating as though she needs as much milk as she did formula. It’s such a process to dial it back slowly and make sure that Annie is eating enough solid food. I’m still giving Annie all of her milk in bottles. I always offer her water with meals in a sippy cup. Annie does well drinking out of a sippy cup, but I’m not ready to make the transition off of bottles yet.

Annie

Annie is mostly wearing 6-12-month clothes with some 9-month and 12-month onesies and pajamas in the mix. This past month, I got all of the 0-6 month clothing that she’s outgrown sorted and out the door to a couple of people who have or are expecting little ones. I still need to go through all of the 12-month and 18-month clothing. It hasn’t cooled down yet at all, and Annie has plenty of clothes that fit, so there hasn’t been a huge hurry.

I moved Annie up to size 4 diapers, including size 4 night diapers, when her size 3 stash ran out. We could have stretched the size 3 diapers longer. But it’s always worth moving up before it becomes a necessity, and the extra capacity is so nice.

Annie continues to take one long nap, always at least two hours, and sleep overnight for about 11 hours from 7 or 8 p.m. to 6 or 7 a.m. Now that we’re back in the school year schedule, I’ve been putting her down for a nap before noon most days, and she’s almost always waking up before 7 a.m. Annie still needs an occasional bottle during the night and always needs one first thing in the morning.
