Popular Mechanics Magazine 1910 Preview

Since 1902, Popular Mechanics magazine has been a leading source on how things work. The subject matter for Popular Mechanics is quite extensive. Covering all aspects of science and technology, the publication regularly features home, automotive, electronics, outdoors, science, and do-it-yourself topics. There are articles on the military, all types of transportation, gadgets, tools, and outer space.

The pages in this collection are all from 1910 editions. They include articles on photography, cars, trucks, motorcycles, architecture, flags, the theater, machinery, agriculture, medical devices, engineering, and farmers’ markets. The collection also includes quite a few full-page advertisement pages with ads for Victor Records, Hawkins Electrical Guides, Williams’ shaving products, Western Electric Company, International Correspondence Schools, Southern Cypress Manufacturers’ Association, and the American Commerce Association. There are lots of smaller ads throughout the pages as well. Many of the articles and advertisements include detailed black-and-white photos and hand-drawn illustrations. Finally, I’ve included a few table of contents pages.

I’m offering 42 full Popular Mechanics magazine pages. They make whimsical decor for homes, classrooms, offices, libraries, and more. They also make great layering pieces for scrapbook pages, art/junk journals, greeting cards, and much more.

About the Popular Mechanics magazine pages

You may use the antique Popular Mechanics magazine pages for as many personal projects as you want, which includes classroom use. You may also use them for limited runs of commercial projects (5,000 items or less). Commercial use DOES NOT include made-to-order sites, such as CafePress and Society6. Digital commercial items must consist of your own original content and be in flat, finished form (i.e., not Adobe Illustrator files). You are not authorized to sell the Popular Mechanics pages, either as individual items or as part of larger collections.

Finally, please don’t distribute the magazine pages to anyone directly. If friends, family, or co-workers would like their own vintage printables, please provide them with a link to this post where they can download the files themselves. Your support allows me to continue to offer free printable vintage collections. Thank you!

Extracting and downloading the ZIP folders

I’ve made ZIP folders for the vintage Popular Mechanics pages. Zipped folders allow me to offer high-resolution files for crisp, vibrant printing while protecting said files against potential theft. Extracting and downloading the ZIP folders from Google Drive is a fairly straightforward process. Please note that it does take a little time to download each folder in full.

  • When you click on the download link, select Open with ZIP Extractor option at the top of the page.
  • The folder will open in a new window. The files will download.
  • Once the files have downloaded, click Extract Now.
  • When the files have extracted and uploaded, click View Extracted Files.
  • Double click on the folder.
  • To download, select the files you’d like to download. Click the three horizontal dots More Actions button. Choose Download.

I highly recommend moving your downloaded files out of your downloads folder and into your main photos folder. I also strongly suggest creating a second copy of the files on an external hard drive or cloud storage drive. Label the folder “Vintage Popular Mechanics Magazine Pages” or something similar, so you’re able to find them again easily.

Now you’re ready to use your antique printables for wall art and numerous craft projects!

Printing antique book and magazine pages

When you print full vintage magazine pages for home decor, my personal recommendation for at-home printing is Finestra Art Paper. The paper features an acid-free, matte surface, which dries ink rapidly, producing crisp, vivid images. I prefer the look at the Finestra creates over the look you get with regular printer paper, card stock, or presentation paper.

I came across Finestra Art Paper through personal research. Over the past decade, I’ve used it for many blog post projects as well as my own home’s decor. I don’t receive any compensation or sponsorship from Finestra for mentioning their products aside from basic affiliate commissions.

When you use antique magazine pages for scrapbooks, art/junk journals, mixed media art, and other craft projects, I recommend printing them on white card stock. You’ll still get durable, high-quality results without the cost of art paper.
