Here’s a little peek at what we were up to this past month!
While not a bad month, January certainly had its challenges. Tommy, Jake, and Annie were all sick. Between sick days, snow days, and a planned school in-service day, we ended up with almost a second Christmas break, except that this break didn’t include grandparents or presents. We had to reschedule Genevieve’s next eye appointment, which was a huge bummer. Thankfully, it only got pushed back a few more weeks. Jake’s grandma passed away in the middle of everything. Both sets of the kids’ grandparents were traveling a lot. We were able to see my parents more toward the end of the month and have a couple more normal weeks after everyone started feeling better.
The kids got reindeer antlers/ears last Christmas. A couple of sets made it to this holiday season. I also got novelty Christmas glasses to give out to Tommy’s classmates and saved a few pairs for my kids. I took more pictures of the kids with their antlers/ears and glasses in early January than I did during the week of Christmas.
Olivia’s birthday is in the beginning of January. I wrote a little birthday post for her and also put together a longer post about the past year. We celebrated with just our immediate family on her actual birthday. Olivia and I went to the grocery store, just the two of us, and she helped me pick out food for dinner and a cake (actually a trio of small cakes), which she loved.
I put together a photo display for each kid’s birthday and leave it up for at least a few weeks afterward. The kids love it so much.
Then a couple of days later, we went out for hibachi with both sets of grandparents. Tommy is the only kid who had done hibachi before, and it was four years ago. They had a great time and did so well with the whole dinner.
It felt like we had about five minutes in which there was snow on the ground, and it was warm enough to play in it.
Truthfully, the snow stuck around for a week. Jake took Tommy sledding while there was still plenty of snow for it.
We ended the month with an outing to the Domes to see their annual model train show with some good friends. Jake and I took the kids to Pegasus for lunch afterward. It was such a fun day.
