I’m continuing my Mediterranean cruise tour today with a whirlwind view of Florence. We opted to see Florence and Pisa in a single day, as we only had one day in the port of Laspezia, which meant a flying visit to both cities. We don’t regret visiting Pisa. But we felt like we barely scratched the surface of Florence and would love to visit again someday. The pictures I’m sharing today illustrate just a tiny fraction of what you can see in this amazing city.

Mediterranean Cruise: Colosseum and Roman Forum

I’m continuing my Mediterranean cruise tour today with the Colosseum and Roman Forum. We started and end our cruise in Rome (technically the large cruise ships sail in and out of Civitavecchia, but we flew in and out of Rome), which meant that we had time in the city on either end of the cruise. We started with some wanderings in the city right after arriving before heading to our hotel for food and a reception with our travel group (we were part of a large radio listener group from southeast WI).

The second day of the trip, we had about half a day to explore the city some more before heading to Civitavecchia to get on the ship. The vast majority of our group did a combined tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Jake and I had never been to Italy before, so everything in Rome was brand new to us. The major tourist destinations are crazy busy but are a must for a first trip to the city.

I thought long and hard about the Mediterranean cruise camera gear and accessories I brought for our recent Mediterranean cruise. I wanted to make sure I had the right gear with me for the nature of the trip and that I didn’t get weighed down with gear I didn’t really need. Somewhat at the last minute, we also decided to bring the Canon Rebel t4i for Jake to use, so I ended up planning for a few additional gear items. Mediterranean Cruise Tips

Taking a Mediterranean cruise is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s easy to get so caught up in picking out new swimsuits, getting a manicure, and finding some new reads for the flights that you don’t think about some of the less exciting but more important aspects of your upcoming trip. Yes, I was super excited about my shellac manicure, too (totally worth it for two weeks of travel), but I also had a huge peace of mind knowing that I’d prepared throughly for long days of sightseeing as well as potential emergencies.
