I recently purchased the ThinkTank SubUrban Disguise 10 for our Mediterranean cruise. (Cruise posts! Highlights | general travel tips | camera gear) Back in May, I shared the unboxing and my initial thoughts about this bag. In that post, you can also read about the other camera bags I own and why I decided to buy a new bag for this trip. Now that I’m back from the Mediterranean, I’m sharing a full review of the ThinkTank SubUrban Disguise 10.

Photography Inspiration

It’s been ages since I last put together a general photography inspiration post (the last one was in March!). I’ve been way overdue to put together another one. Since I started this blog, I’ve talked on multiple occasions about how following amazing photographers and studying stunning images is critical for improving your own photography skills. From beginner smartphone photographers to professional DSLR photographers, looking at great photos on a regular basis helps you become a better photographer.

Since 2013/2014, my single favorite way to follow great photographers has been Instagram. Despite many recent frustrations with Instagram, it remains the simplest, most effective way to process a staggering number of images each week. But, not surprisingly, I also spend a lot of time on Pinterest, more so than ever since I started this blog. There is so much great photography on Pinterest as well. Having another resource filled with gorgeous images is so helpful for keeping my creativity flowing.

Mediterranean Cruise Camera Gear

I thought long and hard about the Mediterranean cruise camera gear and accessories I brought for our recent Mediterranean cruise. I wanted to make sure I had the right gear with me for the nature of the trip and that I didn’t get weighed down with gear I didn’t really need. Somewhat at the last minute, we also decided to bring the Canon Rebel t4i for Jake to use, so I ended up planning for a few additional gear items. Today I’m sharing our Mediterranean cruise camera gear, including what we brought and what did and didn’t work well on the trip.

Gearing Up for Summer Photography

Gearing Up for Summer Photography | https://www.roseclearfield.com

It’s not a secret that I love summer and as such, also love summer photography. I take more pictures in summer than any other season. From fairs and festivals to outdoor concerts to stunning golden hours, the season offers endless opportunities to create fantastic images. Here in southeast WI, you’ll be hard pressed to find a week in the summer that doesn’t feature multiple events that lend themselves naturally to photography. I know the same is true for many other areas of the country as well.

Upgrading from the Canon t4i to the Canon 80D

Upgrading from the Canon t4i to the Canon 80D | https://www.roseclearfield.com

In March 2017, I upgraded from the Canon t4i to the Canon 80D. I bought the Canon t4i in late 2012. In the little more than four years that I shot with the Canon t4i, I took more than 40,000 images. I put this camera through its paces shooting landscapes, cityscapes, pets, jewelry, food, and much more. I brought it on multiple vacations and used it for the photos for dozens of Etsy listings, articles, and blog posts. I’ve shot with it extensively both indoors and outdoors in a wide variety of light levels from harsh sunlight to golden hour to low light in jazz clubs. The Canon Rebel line is an extremely solid line of entry-level cameras, and I would recommend them to anyone entering the world of DSLR photography.

The Canon t4i was my first DSLR camera, and it changed my life. I don’t know where I would have been without photography during this stage in my life. Not using the Canon t4i exclusively anymore is a little bittersweet. But the Canon 80D is an amazing camera, and it’s already blowing me away.
