12 Easy DIY Music Teacher Thank You Cards

Easy DIY music teacher thank you cards are perfect for music teachers, musicians, and any music enthusiasts.

DIY Music Teacher Thank You Cards

As someone who has been taking music lessons and participating in musical activities my entire life, music teachers are near and dear to my heart. Now that I have a son taking music classes, music teachers are more important to me than ever. I wanted to create a collection of thank you cards, specifically with music teachers in mind. I’ve created 12 easy DIY music teacher thank you card designs, ideal for teachers as well as musicians and music enthusiasts.

A few notes

To make my music teacher thank you cards, I used a mix of new and vintage sheet music. For new sheet music, I almost always use All Piano Scores – Chopin, which is what you see here. For vintage sheet music, I used my own free printable vintage sheet music resource. I printed four sheets total (two new, two vintage) for all 12 cards, which was more than enough.

All of the templates that I share in this DIY greeting cards post are designed for A2 cards, which is the size I use for the vast majority of my handmade cards, as I find it to be extremely versatile. If you’d like templates formatted for additional card sizes, please let me know. If you’d like other variations on the templates, such as different fonts or colors, please let me know as well. I’m happy to create additional resources.

Unless otherwise noted, I printed all of the templates in this post on cardstock. The templates are formatted for standard 8.5″ x 11″ printing. If you have any questions about the specific colors I used for any of my cards, don’t hesitate to ask.

I have a detailed post about the basic card making supplies and tools that I use for every single collection of greeting cards I make. As such, I don’t link a ton of card making resources in this post, unless they’re extremely specific to the designs I share.

All of my easy DIY music teacher thank you cards are blank inside. It’s up to you to finish off your cards with personalized messages!

DIY Music Teacher Thank You Card

“Just a note” note tag

The “just a note” note tag design is one of the first homemade sheet music card designs I ever created and is perfect for music teachers. For this set of handmade cards, I made a new colorway for it and added the “to say thank you for all you do” message. I’m sharing the templates you need for this design. Head to the original “just a note” greeting card tutorial for the full instructions.

“Just a note” music note design

I promise that the “just a note” music note design is the only other card in this set that you’ve seen before and that everything else is brand new for this post. I created the original version for my DIY thank you cards collection. This time I used vintage sheet music and a light blue text background, which I love just as much, if not moreso, than the original.

The eighth note is considerably easier to cut out than the sixteenth note. If you want to skip finicky cutting tasks, stick with the eighth note. You can also use a cutting machine to create music notes for greeting cards. I mount the music notes with 0.2″ foam mount squares to give them a little dimension.

Thank You For Being an Out-STANDing Teacher Greeting Card Idea

“Out-STANDing” teacher

I’m not much for corny greeting card designs but I couldn’t resist the out-STANDing teacher joke here. I used a stock photo for the stand image. You can easily find something similar with a Google image search or Pinterest search, which is fine for personal use. I paired it with a “thank you for being an out-STANDing teacher!” message, which you can download below.

DIY Piano Keys Thank You Music Card

“Thank you” piano keys

I’m sure it’s not a surprise that I have played piano almost my entire life and love all things piano, which includes the aesthetic of the piano itself. Typically, I don’t like cutesy music designs that aren’t sheet music, as they feel gimmicky. The exception to this rule is the multicolored music note scrapbook paper that I used for this card. I’m crazy about how it contrasts with the black and white piano keys. I couldn’t find anything comparable to link to online, free or paid, so I’m sharing exactly what I used for this card.

I used 1/2″ foam mount squares to give the piano keys component of the card a little dimension.

Thank You From the Bottom of My Heart Music Thank You Card

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart”

I know that “thank you from the bottom of my heart” with heart images is a little corny, but I’m a sucker for hearts. You absolutely don’t need to use four different sizes of hearts. One or two will work just fine. For my card, I used a 5/8″ heart punch, 1″ heart punch, and 1 1/2″ heart punch as well as a 1/4″ heart hole punch.

The “thank you from the bottom of my heart” stamp that I used is from the Hero Art clear stamps thank you messages set. As of writing this post, it’s unavailable on Amazon, but you can find it in stock elsewhere online.

Multiple thank yous with button detail

I can’t put together a homemade greeting card collection without using a few buttons. In my simple DIY birthday cards set, I shared a similar version with the “happy birthday” music. I have to give credit to Nikelcards who has happy birthday and Christmas music versions of this concept, which inspired my own.

I formatted the sheet music for tiny 3mm buttons. My favorite source for 3mm buttons in all different colors is EmbellishmentButtons on Etsy.

The Earth Has Music For Those Who Listen Handmade Greeting Card Idea

“The Earth has music for those who listen”

I chose the colorway for classic “the Earth has music for those who listen” Shakespeare quote because it’s the Kindermusik color scheme. I think the world of the Kindermusik curriculum and feel very fortunate that we have an amazing local Kindermusik program.

For this design, I used the musical note stamp from norajane on Etsy and a 3/4″ circle punch. I mounted two of the circles with 0.2″ foam mount squares and two of the circles with 1/4″ foam mount squares to give the card more depth. Any size foam mount less than 3/4″ wide works well.

Vintage Sheet Music Thank You Card Idea

Simple thank you overlay

Sometimes simple handmade card ideas are the best. This thank you card with vintage sheet music and patterned scrapbook paper paired with a vellum overlay is no exception.

I first started using vellum when I created candle birthday cards, and it instantly became one my favorite card making materials. I’ve found that the best way to adhere vellum without any visible tape or glue is to use double-sided tape. While not 100% invisible, no one will ever notice that it’s there.

There is Music in Every Child Greeting Card Idea

“There is music in every child”

For this handmade card design, I used the quote “There is music in every child. The teacher’s job is to find it and nurture it.” from Frances Clark. It’s one of my favorite quotes and sums up my philosophy about kids’ creative potential perfectly.

I used vellum for the quote overlay with dark red cardstock underneath. I adhered the vellum with scrapbook glue, which as you can see, is visible. It’s completely up to you if you like this aesthetic or not. As I mentioned in the simple thank you overlay card description above, you can use double-sided tape if you don’t want the adhesive to show through the vellum.

Mason Jar With Music Notes Thank You Card

Mason jar with music notes

I can’t resist creating a mason jar design for most of my handmade greeting card collections. For this card design, the music notes are spilling out from the mason jar. The mason jar is so large that I chose a small “thanks ever so much” stamp to pair with it.

I used the musical note stamp from norajane on Etsy. The mason jar stamp I have isn’t available anymore, but you can purchase a similar Inkadinkado mason jar stamp on Amazon.

The “thank you” stamp that I used is from the Hero Art clear stamps thank you messages set. As of writing this post, it’s unavailable on Amazon, but you can find it in stock elsewhere online.

“When words fail, music speaks”

I created one more music teacher thank you card with a Shakespeare quote, this time “When words fail, music speaks.” I made two versions with different color schemes. There are endless possibilities for different colors and patterns.

Just a Note to Say Thank You Handmade Greeting Card

Just a note… …to say thank you with button detail

I finished out the set of DIY music teacher thank you cards with one more homemade button card. You can use this design without a button, but obviously, I love the little button detail. I wanted to showcase a couple of different bright color schemes. A neutral color scheme would work well, too.

I used 3/4″ buttons for this greeting card design. 3/4″-1 1/4″ width is ideal here. Currently, I get most of my buttons from MellowMoonSupply on Etsy. I also use a number of bulk button sets from Oriental Trading. Their bright rainbow mix is a good option for this greeting card design.
