Free Printable Vintage Hymns Sheet Music

You already know that I’m a little bit obsessed with all things sheet music.

The American Hymnal Blessed Assurance Sheet Music

So it should come as no surprise that free printable vintage hymns are right up my alley. I love creating with all types of sheet music. On occasion, I’ve created my own vintage sheet music for various projects. But there’s nothing quite like using genuine vintage sheet music.

For some people, I’m sure that vintage hymns sheet music seems oddly specific. For other people who were looking for exactly this type of sheet music, I’m sure what I’m about to say makes perfect sense. When you’ve spent your entire life attending church regularly and have sung in many church choirs over the years, there’s something extremely familiar and comforting about the aesthetic of hymns and hymn books. I love seeing how the look of the books themselves and the music changes over time.

I’ve created 10 sheet music printables each from three hymn books for 30 printables total. Each hymn book features a distinct aesthetic for your crafting, wall art, and choir book purposes.

How to use free printable vintage hymns sheet music

  • Wall art. One of the most popular ways to use vintage book pages, sheet music or otherwise, is to create homemade wall art, such as my DIY Easter sheet music wall decor. Vintage hymns make beautiful wall art on their own or overlaid with text and/or images, such as prayers, scripture verses, and seasonal/holiday messages.
  • Choir books. You can create choir or caroling books from any type of music. There is a ton of free new sheet music readily available. However, there is nothing quite like the look of vintage hymns.
  • Tile coasters, using the method I outline in my vintage sheet music botanical coasters post. Again, vintage sheet music looks beautiful on its own or with words or images overlaid.
  • Home decor. Beyond wall art and tile coasters, there are numerous possibilities for creating vintage hymns sheet music items, such as decoupaged mason jars, decorated votive candles, and Christmas ornaments.
  • Glass or bottle cap magnets, using my technique for sheet music glass magnets.
  • Greeting cards. Vintage hymns create a perfect background for all types of greeting cards, including but not limited to, religious Christmas cards, sympathy cards, thank you notes, and wedding cards.
  • Gift tags. Vintage hymns are also an ideal background for handmade holiday gift tags.
  • Mixed media projects, art journals, and prayer/spiritual journals. Layer sheet music with ink, stamps, paint, and more to create one of a kind mixed media projects or journaling pages.
  • Scrapbooking. Vintage music creates whimsical backgrounds for both digital and physical scrapbooks. Old hymn sheet music is also perfect for DIY scrapbook embellishments.

    1. Hi, Tina! I have vintage Christmas sheet music coming the week after Thanksgiving. If you’d like access to the files before then, let me know.

  1. Hello!!! If it’s at all possible, I would love to access it, in order to have time to make a garland for when we decorate our tree after Thanksgiving Day. Thank you!?

  2. How do you get the paper to look vintage? I can not find vintage looking paper in any craft stores. I like the yellowed, vintage look.

  3. I’m unable to locate the Christmas sheet music. Lol! Am I completely missing the link, or will it be later this week? So sorry to pester! I see that the post has been updated, but for some reason I can’t locate the link for Christmas. Any suggestions. 🙂
    Thank you!

  4. Hi I was wondering if you do custom sheet music? I have been searching everywhere for my grandmothers favorite hymn and I can’t find it

  5. I have a hymn book at home- I would like to make my own “vintage” looking hymns. How did you do this? Did you find vintage hymns or did you make them digitally?

    1. Hi Kelly,
Thanks for reaching out! I did use vintage hymns, and I still did quite a bit of editing to get the vintage aesthetic I wanted. You can easily create a vintage look digitally with any new paper.
Do you have Photoshop? You certainly don’t need Photoshop to do this sort of editing. But it’s what I’m using and can walk you through the editing process for it if you’re interested.
      Best,
      Rose

  6. Hi Rose: I just stumbled onto your blog. I have a very specific request. Would you know how I might find a copy of “The Glory of His Presence” (by Oswald Smith) from a hymnbook or as sheet music. Sometimes it is also called “I Have Walked Alone with Jesus.” My mother-in-law is turning 95 in June, and she asked me to find her the music for this song. She still serves as her church pianist, lives alone and travels. She is a very fine pianist, having studied at Peabody Conservatory back in the early 40s. But, she wants me to make sure this song will be sung at her funeral, and I have come up empty … except for a somewhat blurry picture taken from a hymnbook on YouTube. If you have any ideas, I would be happy to hear from you or from one of your readers. Thanks, Bob Winn, 308-870-0005 or [email protected]
